Prof. Dr. Andreas Busch

 
Member of the Bayer HealthCare Executive Committee and Head of Global Drug Discovery
Professor Dr. Andreas Busch has been a member of the Bayer HealthCare Executive Committee as Head of Global Drug Discovery (research & early development pharmaceuticals) since February 1, 2007. The research function of the Animal Health Division has been integrated into Global Drug Discovery as of March 1, 2011. He has reported to the Head of Bayer HealthCare, Dr. Jörg Reinhardt, in his capacity since March 1, 2011.

Professor Busch was born on August 26, 1963 in Pirmasens, Germany and studied pharmacy at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. After earning a doctorate in pharmacology in 1989, he worked at various research institutes in Germany and the United States. He was appointed Head of Cardiovascular Research at Hoechst Marion Roussel in 1997 and at Aventis in 1999. At Sanofi-Aventis, Busch was additionally responsible for the two research sites in Frankfurt am Main and Paris. He joined Bayer HealthCare in 2005, where he initially worked as Head of Pharmaceutical Research Europe at the Wuppertal site. He was appointed Head of Global Pharmaceuticals Research at Bayer HealthCare in January 2006.

Prior to his career in industry, Busch received DFG and Helmholtz Fellowships and was a Heisenberg Fellow at the University of Tübingen and at the Max Planck Institute in Göttingen. In addition, he has been an Associate Professor at the Pharmacological Institute of Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main since 1998. His scientific work has been recognized with the Franz Volhard Award and the Sir Bernhard Katz Award.

Andreas Busch is married and has three children.
